St Ann branch of the Jamaica Red Cross is appealing to members of the public for assistance for 17 people who have been left homeless because of a fire.

Among those affected are several school-age children and a blind man.

The fire ravaged the premises of two families in Refuge Hill in Exchange, Ocho Rios, on Thursday evening.

Branch Director, Karen Brown, says the Red Cross and the Ministry of Labour have already contributed some items to the affected persons but much more is needed.
