The Tourism Ministry has allocated some $46 million to help transform Montego Bay’s Hip Strip in St. James.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett says discussions will be held with stakeholders about extending the Hip Strip from ‘Dump Up Beach’ to 'Dead End' and offering more food and shopping outlets.

According to Bartlett, the transformation will include another 350 rooms when Spanish Court Montego Bay is completed and another 80 rooms at Sea Gardens Beach Resort.

He also says the tourism ministry will work to remove all the overhanging utility wires and put them underground to improve the physical appearance of the Hip Strip.

Bartlett says some $11 million have already been allocated for preliminary work on the project before March 31.
