The Independent Commission Of Investigations (INDECOM) is appealing for persons who may have witnessed last Friday's shooting of a district constable in Old Harbour, St Catherine to come forward with information although it appears the shooting was an accident.

The District Constable 27-year-old Duran Smith was shot while visiting the home of one of his colleagues at the Aviary Housing Scheme in Old Harbour.

He died in hospital yesterday.

INDECOM deputy commissioner Hamish Campbell says initial reports suggests that a policewoman was firing at another person when she missed and shot the district constable who was attached to the Spanish Town Missing Persons Unit in St Catherine.
