More women reporting acts of sexual abuse - CISOCA
The police division established to investigate cases of sexual abuse says more women are coming forward to report incidents that happened several years ago.
The Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) says it is now probing at least 18 cases that were reported recently about incidents that occurred more than five years ago.
One of the incidents reportedly occurred in 1991.
There is no statue of limitation for rape.
Detective Inspector Claudette Hepburn, who is attached to CISOCA, believes more women are coming forward because they have been sensitised about sexual abuse. In some cases, she says they simply want to get it off their chest.
