Frequency of pipeline damage on Mandela Highway worries NWC

In this January file photo traffic slows to a crawl along Mandela Highway as water from a broken main flooded the street.

The National Water Commission (NWC) says it is concerned about the frequency at which its infrastructure along the Mandela Highway is being damaged due to works currently being done in the area.

Communications manager at the NWC, Charles Buchanan told The Gleaner Power 106 News Centre that the NWC had hoped for little damage to the water pipelines as they are old and badly in need of replacement.

Buchanan said he has cautioned the contractors currently undertaking the work on the Mandela Highway about the fragility of the water mains.

Meanwhile, the NWC says it has repaired the broken pipeline that caused a pile up of traffic on the highway yesterday.
