J Wray and Nephew happy with Sigma Run partnership
J. Wray and Nephew Limited, Jamaica's premium producer of fine spirits, is expressing satisfaction with being the longest-running sponsor of the 19-year-old Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run. To date, the company has donated $20 million to the fundraiser whose primary beneficiary is the island's health sector.
Chairman of J Wray and Nephew, Clement 'Jimmy' Lawrence, said the company's unwavering support of the charity run stemmed from its core values of integrity, passion, pragmatism and performance orientation, which are the guiding principles of the company's day-to-day operations.
"Our long tradition of contributing to nation building through corporate social responsibility is also informed by our values," Lawrence said. He further stated that supporting charitable events through staff involvement was an integral pillar of the company's corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The spirits giant's team members' participation in the annual Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run has become just one of the avenues through which J Wray and Nephew supports the less fortunate in the society, and in the 19 years of its existence, the staff have willingly used their talents to benefit this event.
"We are proud to have been associated with an event of this nature, which, since its inception, has raised millions to assist organisations in dire need of financial aid," Lawrence added.
According to him, the charity run has lived up to their expectations because of the tremendous outpouring from their staff, whether from Appleton in St Elizabeth, New Yarmouth in Clarendon or the Kingston operations, who have willingly volunteered their time every year. This year saw more members of staff participating in the event.
Going forward, the chairman envisions that the company's support will continue as long as their values remain important to them and they remain committed to giving back.
