Jamaican wanted by US authorities nabbed in Spanish Town

A Jamaican man who is wanted in the United States for drug trafficking, has been held in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

Desmond Campbell, who had been on the run from US authorities since 2009 was caught in the old capital during a joint operation by Jamaican and United States law enforcement agents.

Campbell, skipped bail in 2009 while awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to drug trafficking in a New York court.

Prosecutors allege that from 2007 to 2009, Campbell was a major player in an international drug network which shipped tonnes of marijuana in containers from Kingston to the United States.

He is facing extradition and will appear in the St Andrew Parish Court this week where the case will be heard.

Campbell is facing 30 years to life in prison.
