JCF losing cops to foreign recruiters, says Montague
National Security Minister Robert Montague has said the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is losing members to neighbouring Caribbean countries.
Addressing members of the Standing Finance Committee of Parliament last night, Montague said the officers are being offered lucrative salaries abroad.
He said representatives of a particular Caribbean country have approached the government requesting 10 officers to work in their jurisdiction.
Montague argued that while the force was being impacted by severe attrition, the recruitment of local officers is an indication of the calibre of personnel that work within the JCF.
At the same time the minister said the government was training more than 300 recruits.
Last year, 524 police personnel left the JCF including persons who retired.
