Millions of dollars seized from businessman caught with funds in car
Close to $6 million in Jamaican and United States currency has been seized from a St Andrew businessman in Manchester.
The identity of the businessman is being withheld, but the Narcotics Police say an initial investigation suggests that the money is the proceeds of criminal activities.
As a result, it says the Financial Investigation Division of the Finance Ministry has been alerted and is taking steps to have the money forfeited to the government under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
The Narcotics Police report that a team was conducting operations along West Road in Mandeville when they intercepted a motorcar being driven by the businessman.
It's reported that during a search of the vehicle US$9,100 and just over $4.5 million in Jamaican currency was discovered.
