Painting for a cause under the stars

Published:Friday | March 3, 2017 | 12:04 AM

Imagine an evening sipping fine wine and eating cheese, while painting on a canvas, while soothing live acoustic music fills the air.

That is what cluster La Maison on the Aston Preston Hall, University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus will be bringing to patrons on Saturday, March 11.

Painting Under The Stars was conceptualised by residents of the cluster. The event, now in its second staging, is the first of its kind on the UWI, Mona campus. It is being held to create networking opportunities for residents of the hall and is an avenue for the cluster to raise funds.

This year, proceeds from the event will go towards the La Maison Student Financial Grant. The grant provides financial support to include book and/or food for a member of the cluster in need.

Financial difficulties

Cluster representative for cluster La Maison, Curtis Moxam explained that many students at the university are faced with financial difficulties.

"As we all know, students have difficulties finding the basic necessities to just come to university and if we can host an event that is not only entertaining but can contribute to a good cause, then we are all for it," Moxam said.

In addition to being treated to fine wine and cheese, patrons will also enjoy poetry and art performances.

The event will be held on the lawns of cluster La Maison, Aston Preston Hall (UWI, Mona). Tickets for the event cost $2000 and start time is 7 p.m.
