St Andrew JP for court March 13, Justice Minister warns others about false declarations
Justice Minister Delroy Chuck is urging Justices of the Peace (JPs) to refrain from making false declarations.
The minister's pronouncement follow's this week's arrest of a St Andrew JP, Donna Crawford, on four counts of breaches under the Forgery Act.
Detectives assigned to the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Branch reportedly visited Crawford's office where they observed that she was signing passport documents for individuals with whom she was not familiar.
She is to appear in the St Andrew Parish Court on Monday, March 13.
Chuck says the recent arrest is a reminder for JPs to ensure they do not sign documents that are deemed false, or contain inaccurate information.
He said over the past months he has been urging JPs to represent honesty and decency and to speak out against corruption, wrongdoing, and illicit activities.
Meanwhile, Chuck said the JP who was arrested earlier this week is to be suspended until further notice.
He said arrangements have also been made to take possession of the seal until the matter is resolved in court.
