Construction workers at the Excellence Group Luxury Hotel in Trelawny have walked off the job.

The more than 500 workers put down their tools this morning to demand better wages.

A spokesman for the group, Omar Williams, told our news centre that the workers are being underpaid and that they will not go back to work until there is an adjustment in their wages.

Victor Wright, Member of Parliament for North Trelawny, where the hotel is being built, says he’s not aware of the pay issue.

However, Wright is appealing to the workers to allow good sense to prevail.

Construction on the hotel resumed in January after being halted some time ago.

The property has been under construction for several years.
