NWA continues mitigation activities on Portland road

Work crews from the National Works Agency (NWA) are continuing mitigation activities along the main road between Orange Bay and Windsor Castle in Portland.

The roadway is being threatened by strong waves from the sea adjacent the thoroughfare.

NWA Communication Manager Stephen Shaw says overnight a small section of the road collapsed due to wave action.

He says the NWA continues to use boulders to strengthen the sea wall to protect the road from further damage.

He says the road, which is part of the North-Coast Highway, remains closed.

Motorists travelling from the direction of Buff Bay Square to Port Antonio continue to be re-routed along East Norman Lane, then onto Lynch Park Road, exiting beside the sports complex.

The reverse obtains for persons travelling from Port Antonio.

Motorists are being advised to obey the instructions of the flag persons and posted warning signs.

Meanwhile, Mr. Shaw says the NWA has not received any reports of any other damage to infrastructure as a result of the inclement weather in some parishes.
