Electricity Sector Enterprise Team to be disbanded
The Electricity Sector Enterprise Team (ESET) will be no more as its work is to be absorbed into new body to be known as the Generation Procurement Entity.
The Generation Procurement Entity was established under the 2015 Electricity Act as the entity responsible for new electricity generation procurement.
That act, however, did not provide a structure for the body.
ESET's acting chairman Professor Alvin Wint told journalists this morning that the Cabinet on Monday approved its recommendations on a structure for the Generation Procurement Entity.
As a result, ESET will cease to operate through the Cabinet and its work brought under the Generation Procurement Entity which will be affiliated to the Energy Ministry.
However, it is to still maintain some level of independence.
The Government is expected to announce the membership next week.
The recommendations stem from an ESET-commissioned study that was financed by the World Bank.
