Former NHT chairman says PM should clarify NHT remarks

Former National Housing Trust (NHT) chairman, Howard Mitchell, says Prime Minister Andrew Holness needs to clarify his remarks about the trust being a financial institution.

Mitchell says the remarks may cause some confusion about the mandate of the state agency.

He says during his time as NHT chairman the trust did not operate as a financial institution.

Financial institutions in Jamaica are regulated by the Bank of Jamaica and the Financial Services Commission and must be licensed to operate.

The NHT was established by an Act of Parliament.
