Former members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) who are retired and have been waiting for their retirement money are to be paid in the upcoming financial year.

Cabinet has approved the payment of an additional $310 million in the 2017-18 financial year to 54 ex-JCF members, under the Early Retirement Incentive Scheme.

Cabinet says payments will cover up to the equivalent of a maximum of one year’s salary.

It has decision that the scheme will continue as a management tool.

Cabinet says the Minister of National Security, based on recommendations by the Commissioner of Police and on the advice of the National Security Council, will approve the final list of beneficiaries.

It further says approval will only be given to select members of the JCF to encourage separation in the national interest or to facilitate improvements, leading to increased efficiency and effectiveness within the force.
