TAJ reports success in collecting outstanding taxes

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reporting an 88 per cent success rate in attempts to recover outstanding taxes from delinquent payers in St Catherine.

With support from the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA), the TAJ says it targeted 133 taxpayers described as chronically delinquent in the parish.

The TAJ says 117 have so far made payments in full, or have entered into arrangements to pay over the outstanding amounts.

The tax collection agency says it will be conducting further operations of a similar nature over the next several weeks in other parishes to increase tax compliance as part of its thrust to protect the government's revenues.

The TAJ warns that it will continue to exercise its options as prescribed by the law, which include issuing Garnishment Notices, Seizing Assets, or registering Liens against properties owned by delinquents.
