Berger Paints champions the environment with poster competition
Recycling is important in today's world if we want to leave this planet in good shape for future generations. It is good for the environment, since it is making new things from old products which are of no more use to us.
Recycling begins at home. Berger Paints Jamaica, committed to being a responsible corporate citizen, has launched its 'Save Our Planet' poster competition with the objective of bringing the message of recycling to children across the island in an engaging format.
The competition will award three winners per county with prizes ranging from tablets to book vouchers valued at $8,000, and trips to the Kool Runnings Water Park. Berger Paints will also give the school of the child with the best poster in each county, 10 gallons of paint for a project of their choice.
Targeted at children age six to 12 years old, the team from Berger Paints has created a colouring page which children are to complete using recycled materials and bright colours.
The colouring page is available in The Gleaner's Children's Own and they are also available for download on the Berger Paints website - www.bergerpaintscaribbean.com.
According to Casey Perue, marketing manager at Berger Paints, the competition has been conceptualised with the hope that by participating in this activity, children and their parents will start to think about how they can reuse material which would usually be thrown away.
"If you are not throwing away any of your old products and, instead, utilising it for something new, then you are actually recycling. When you think of recycling, you should really think about the whole idea - reduce, reuse and recycle," Perue said.
Located next to the Riverton City landfill in Kingston, caring for the environment is always a top priority for Berger Paints. The company continues to demonstrate its commitment to protecting the environment through ensuring that all its decorative paints are environmentally friendly and are lead-free.
Additionally, the company's environmentally friendly production processes and waste-water treatment plant have been recognised as multiple-time winners of the JMA Best Environmental Management Programme Award.
