Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton says the cardiac centre at the Bustamante Children's Hospital should be in operation by the end of June.

Tufton says the appropriate build-out will follow and he is hoping that the new facility will see its first case by mid-year.

He acknowledged that the project has been delayed several times, but said the government will ensure that the facility is completed.

Tufton was speaking following a meeting with a medical mission team from the Congenital Heart Institute of Florida, which is in the island to perform cardiac surgeries.

The minister expressed gratitude to charity group, Chain of Hope, which is funding the mission, and other partners who have provided support for the cardiac centre.
