The US$20.5 million rehabilitation of Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston is to be completed by the end of April.

Stephen Shaw, the National Works Agency's (NWA) communication manager, says the aim was to complete the roadway by the end of March, but it will now extend to the end of the contractual arrangement, which is at the end of April.

The thoroughfare is currently 97 per cent complete.

The project is being undertaken under the Major Infrastructure Development Programme (MIDP) through a concessionary loan from the Chinese government.

Some 40,000 motor vehicles traverse the roadway daily, according to a NWA survey, making it one of the busiest thoroughfares in the country.

Marcus Garvey Drive is also a major link to the Kingston Container Terminal and the industrial belt at Newport and downtown Kingston.
