Taxi driver in fatal St Thomas crash released, warned for prosecution

The police in St Thomas have released the taxi driver held in connection with today’s fatal road crash which claimed the life of a high schoolteacher in the parish.

The driver was warned for prosecution and is to return to the Yallahs Police station on Friday with his attorney.

The dead man has been identified as 58-year-old Bernett Afflick, an information technology teacher at the Morant Bay High School in the parish.

It is reported that about eight o’clock this morning Afflick was riding his motorcycle in an easterly direction when a grey Toyota corolla taxi travelling in the opposite direction made a right turn at an intersection.

Afflick reportedly slammed into the vehicle and died on the spot.

The driver of the vehicle was subsequently taken into custody for questioning.
