She says the police and military are maintaining a presence in the area.

Inspector Garrick says Mullings’ crony, who was shot dead, is yet to be identified.

She says last night a police team went to premises in the community in search of wanted men and ordered them to surrender.

She says the team came under heavy gunfire and two hand grenades were thrown at the team, one of which exploded injuring a policeman.

Inspector Garrick says the men escaped.

She says a police team supported by the Jamaica Defence Force then launched a search and one of the gunmen was found suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, Inspector Garrick says the policeman’s injuries are not considered serious and he’s currently recuperating.
