Today is the last day for self-employed persons and businesses to file their Income Tax Returns for 2016 and Estimated Returns for 2017.

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reminding that a $5,000 monthly penalty is charged for late returns.

Income Tax filers can avoid the expected higher than normal last minute rush, by filing online via the TAJ Tax Portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.

Taxpayers can also visit select tax offices between 10 o’clock this morning and 4 o’clock this afternoon.

These tax offices are Constant Spring; Montego Bay; Spanish Town; May Pen; Mandeville;  Savanna-la-Mar; St Ann’s Bay and the Portmore Tax Office.

Persons will also be able to use the special tax support sessions at these tax offices.

Taxpayers who wish to make the most of the free service are being asked to take with them all business related documents, including their Taxpayer Registration Number, bank statements, purchase invoices, receipts, sales records, utility bills, wage records and any other records that can be used to verify income and expenses.
