UPDATE: Identity of cop killed in Clarendon released

The identity of the policeman who was shot and killed by gunmen in Clarendon last evening has been released.

He is 37-year-old Corporal Kevin McLean, of Coleyville district, Manchester.

McLean was assigned to the Chapelton Police Station in Clarendon.

The police Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) reports that Corporal McLean was on his way home from work when he encountered a group of gunmen who were in the process of robbing two Chinese men.

According to CCU, the men opened fire at Corporal McLean, hitting him several times.

Reacting to the killing, acting Police Commissioner of Police Novlette Grant urged the men and women of the Jamaica Constabulary Force to remain vigilant and push back against lawlessness, even as they mourn the loss of their colleague.

She also appealed to all police personnel to make personal safety a top priority.

The police are asking anyone with information that can assist their investigation into Corporal McLean’s killing to contact the Frankfield Police at 904-4507, police emergency number 119, Crime Stop at 311 or the nearest police station.
