Group Chief Executive Officer of GraceKennedy Limited, Don Wehby, says the company will be looking into producing corned beef locally.

Wehby says he has asked a team to look at what it would take to produce the product at its plant in Westmoreland and is expected to be provided with a report soon.

He notes that the plant already produces a range of meat products.

The move by Grace Kennedy comes in light of the Government lifting the ban and sale of corned beef from Brazil amid a contaminated beef scandal.

Wehby says the company is pleased with the decision noting that it confirms that factories which supply Jamaica meet the highest level of international standards.

Meanwhile, Lasco Distributors says it will resume the sale of its corned beef tomorrow with the lifting of the ban.

The company says it commends the agriculture and commerce ministry for its due diligence in protecting the health and safety of Jamaicans and the speed in which its investigation was completed.
