Acting police chief asked to continue in post
Acting Police Commissioner Novelette Grant says she has been asked by the Police Service Commission (PSC) to continue serving in the position.
Grant was appointed by the PSC to act as police commissioner for a 90-day period, starting January 7 this year following the decision by Dr Carl Williams to opt for early retirement.
The 90 days ended on Friday without any word from the PSC on whether a new commissioner had been selected.
Speaking to the Gleaner/Power106 news centre yesterday, Grant said she was informed by the PSC that the selection process is still ongoing.
As a result, the acting police commissioner said she was asked to continue until a decision is taken.
