Ardenne teacher accused of sexual misconduct sent on leave pending hearing
The teacher at the Ardenne High School accused of inappropriate conduct involving a student has been sent on leave.
The Education Minister Ruel Reid, says the matter is now set for a hearing later this month before the disciplinary committee of the school board.
The guardian of the schoolgirl had reported that her 16-year-old ward came home crying one day last month as the child recounted how she was abused by the teacher.
According to the woman, the child said she was instructed to accompany the teacher to a classroom and while there, the teacher sat on a chair and asked for a hug.
The woman said the child agreed to hug the teacher and that's when she was assaulted.
The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre understands that the accused teacher has now secured legal representation.
The school's principal has reported that statements have been collected and the reports sent to the Children's Registry.
