AUDIO: We will put crime under control, says incoming Police Commissioner George Quallo

Deputy Commissioner of Police George Quallo is to be appointed Commissioner of Police effective April 18.
This afternoon, Quallo told The Gleaner that he was advised by the Police Service Commission about the appointment around 3 p.m.
He also vowed that the team he leads will be able to effectively reduce crime.
"We will put this crime monster under control," Quallo said in a brief interview.

He said details of his crime plan will be shared with the country, adding that he’s looking forward to working with all stakeholders to tackle Jamaica’s crime issue.
Quallo replaces Dr Carl Williams who went on pre retirement leave in January.

DCP Novelette Grant had been acting as police commissioner.

*Joined the Jamaica Constabulary Force on the November 29, 1976
*Between 2002 and 2006 restructured the Manchester Police Division, using community policing principles as the major policing strategy resulting in a large reduction in all crime categories.
*In 2009, led the rebuilding of the JCF Armoury, implementing rigorous internal controls and strengthening accountability for firearms within the force.
