Education ministry's safety and security director heads to Cumberland High
The Education Ministry's safety and security director is to visit the Cumberland High School in Portmore, St Catherine this morning amid reports that students have been attacking the teaching staff.
Assistant Superintendent Coleridge Minto is to meet with the school's principal and staff.
In a release last night, the Ministry said it was alarmed at the reports and it was moving swiftly to curtail the situation as the safety and security of staff and students at all educational facilities are paramount.
It said Education Minister Ruel Reid has been briefed on the matter.
Yesterday, teachers at Cumberland High staged a sit-in to protest the series of attacks by students.
Teacher Donovan Edwards said the latest incident occurred on Friday when the principal was physically attacked by a female student after he attempted to discipline her.
The student also retaliated by throwing a stone into the principal's car.
