The time it takes for pensioners to start receiving entitlements after retirement is expected to be reduced significantly with the installation of a new computer-based application across all government ministries and agencies.

State Minister in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, Rudyard Spencer said yesterday that government has started testing the new Public Employees' Pension Administration System.

Spencer, who was making his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in Parliament, says the system will provide human resource personnel with ready access to current and reliable employment history and pension entitlement information.

Mr Spencer says the new computerised application is part of the reform being undertaken in the public sector.

With an estimated forty thousand public sector pensioners, Mr Spencer says it is important for the administration of the pension system to be improved to ensure its sustainability.
