Mayor of Port Antonio Paul Thompson is satisfied that rehabilitation works at the Portland Infirmary is going according to schedule.

Approximately $13 million is being spent in phase one to build a new recreational area, improve the kitchen and refurbish the living quarters.

The infirmary will also be outfitted with new kitchen appliances, furniture and emergency equipment.

Mayor Thompson, who was speaking at the Portland Municipal Corporation's monthly sitting last Thursday, said the infirmary should look like a modern-day facility equipped with state-of-the-art appliances and tools.

The rehabilitation work follows a recent visit by Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie who expressed concern about the condition of the facility which is home to about 77 residents.
