Agriculture Ministry urges caution after ginger sprayed with chemical is stolen
The Agriculture Ministry is warning the public to be extra careful when purchasing green ginger.
The warning follows reports that green ginger, treated with the chemical Topsin, was stolen from the Ministry’s Research Station at Orange River, St Mary over the weekend.
The ministry says a report from the Research Station indicates that approximately 450 pounds of the ginger were treated with Topsin on Thursday, April 13.
The Agriculture Ministry says consuming the ginger within seven days of treatment can lead to severe vomiting, diarrhoea and headache.
