UPDATE: Flash flood warning issued for nine parishes

Published:Saturday | April 22, 2017 | 5:47 PM

The Meteorological Service has now issued a flash flood warning for low-lying and flood-prone areas in nine parishes.

These include Kingston, St Andrew, St Thomas, Portland, St Mary, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester and St Ann.

The Met Service says the warning will remain in effect until 7 o’clock tomorrow morning.

It says a trough across the western Caribbean and Jamaica continues to influence weather conditions across the island.

The Met Service says the forecast is for showers, which could become heavy at times, to continue affecting sections of central and eastern parishes for the next 24 hours.

As a result, the Met Service says flash flooding is imminent or likely over some low-lying and flood-prone areas in the parishes it has identified.

A flash flood warning means that flooding has been reported or will occur shortly.
