Yallahs Division election petition challenge to begin in court today
The trial into the election petition challenging the election of councillor for the Yallahs Division in St Thomas, Dean Jones, is expected to begin in the Supreme Court today.
The matter is to be heard over three days.
The petition was filed by the People’s National Party’s Constantine Bogle following the November 28, 2016 local government elections.
Bogle, who is the former councillor for the Yallahs Division, is claiming that Jones does not live in the parish and that up to the time of the elections he was a civil servant.
He argues that Jones is therefore unfit to serve in the municipal corporation.
However, Jones has denied the allegations stating that he has lived in St Thomas for years and has called Bogle a sore loser.
There’s a five-five tie between the Jamaica Labour Party and the People’s National Party in the local corporation.
