$29 billion worth of building permits approved in 2016
Approximately $29 billion worth of building permits were approved by the 14 municipal corporations last year.
The data is contained in the 2016-2017 annual performance report for the Local Government and Community Development Ministry that was tabled in the Parliament.
According to the document for the period April 2016 to December 2016, 3,495 applications for permits valuing about $39 billion were submitted to the local authorities.
About 85 per cent of the applications or 2,560 were approved.
These applications carried about $29 billion in investments.
The report said 1,154 were still being processed at the end of December last year.
The Portmore, St Catherine and Kingston and St Andrew municipal corporations relieved the largest volume of applications which were worth over $17 billion.
