Chuck says delays causing corruption in divorces
Justice Minister Delroy Chuck says the Justice Ministry is working to eliminate corruption in the granting of divorces.
According to Chuck, delays in the process have allowed corrupt practices to "creep in" because it can take years for a marriage to be dissolved by the court.
Speaking at a post-Sectoral press conference this morning, Chuck said the Ministry has seen cases where divorce decrees have been signed by judges who do not exist.
He said there have also been instances where divorce papers have been stamped with outdated judge’s seals.
The justice minister said his ministry is implementing measures to cut the wait time to get a divorce as part of the response to address the problem.
