McKenzie appeals to arsonists setting fires at St Elizabeth dump

Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie is appealing to persons to stop setting fires to the Myersville Dump in St Elizabeth.

There has been fires at the disposal site in recent times with the most recent being over the weekend.

It was reported that the latest fire was set by arsonists.

McKenzie said these illicit fires are negatively impacting the dump and surrounding communities.

He said National Solid Waste Management Authority has increased security measures.

He said the local government ministry continues to work with the police and the fire department to curtail the problem.

McKenzie was responding to questions from journalists following a property tax sensitisation session in St Elizabeth yesterday.
