Prime Minister Andrew Holness has taken to social media announcing the launch of OPM TV online.

The announcement has provoked dozens of responses from social media followers with some questioning the motivation for the move.

"What happen to PBCJ (Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica) and JIS (Jamaica Information Service)??” questioned @kra_Dak.

Solomon Perkins had a similar sentiment.

"I was expecting @jistv to handle this," he tweeted under the handle @DAlexForce.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s director of communications, Robert Morgan, has sought to assure that the creation of OPM TV is not at an added cost to the public purse.

"No new department is being created. No new person is being employed. No additional spending is being made," he said on Twitter.

In announcing the launch of OPM TV, Holness had tweeted that the online portal would give the public all the information its needs.
