The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) has appointed a new chairman for its board.

Seiji Kawamura has been named to replace Chang Sup Jo, who served as chairman of JPS during the period June 2014 to April 2017.

Kawamura has worked with Marubeni Corporation – one of JPS’ main shareholders – since 1994.

He has served Marubeni in a number of capacities, ranging from project manager at the Manila Branch in the Philippines, vice-president of San Roque Power Corp in the Philippines (a large hydro plant), to his last position in the region as chief financial officer of Marubeni Caribbean Power Inc.

Kawamura was first appointed as a JPS Board Director in August 2007, a position he has since maintained.

He holds a Bachelor of Economics from the Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, Japan and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Yesterday the JPSD expressed its gratitude to its former hairman Chang Sup Jo, who will remain on the board.
