Grindley's Guide | Beauty lives in the Garden of Hope

Published:Tuesday | May 16, 2017 | 12:00 AM

Today, Hope Botanic Gardens in St Andrew remains a popular attraction in the Corporate Area. A picture of lush greenery and beautiful landscapes, it's the place to go for couples, church and study groups, wedding parties and, of course, anyone just seeking for a spot to relax.

Hope Gardens - or the Royal Botanic Gardens, Hope - were formerly part of the estate of Major Richard Hope, one of the English officers who helped capture Jamaica from the Spanish in 1655.

These gardens, along with Fern Gully in St Ann and Holland Bamboo Grove in St Elizabeth, are maintained by the Ministry of Agriculture's Public Gardens Division and are used regularly in photo shoots and to provide educational programmes designed to expose students to general gardening practices.
