The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) says the Marie Atkins Shelter in Kingston is to get a facelift as part of its Labour Day activities today.

The UDC says it will paint the building, repair fixtures and screed the concrete entrance to the shelter in keeping with the National Labour Day Theme: 'Restore, Preserve, Beautify'.

The shelter, named after the late Marie Atkins, former Mayor of Kingston and St Andrew, provides shelter for displaced and dispossessed individuals.

There are presently 97 registered persons attached to the shelter, 20 of whom are females.
