A Jamaican woman is facing a murder charge in Barbados.

She is Tedesha Ann Juliet Haynes.

Haynes had been charged with inflicting serious bodily harm, but the charges against her were elevated to murder on Friday when she appeared in court in Bridgetown.

According to CANA, Haynes, who has been behind bars for the past 28 days, is accused of killing another Jamaican woman, Shockoya Boyd, who she stabbed on April 28.

The stabbing took place during an altercation.

Haynes lost her freedom when the prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that she is a non-national. The prosecutor had also argued that the charge against her was likely to be upgraded, based on the outcome of an autopsy on Boyd’s body.

Haynes will return to court on June 23.
