Hundreds of residents of Cornwall Court in Montego Bay, St James are now trapped in their neighbourhood as a result of a major road block mounted by people from the adjoining Valley Heights community.

The residents are protesting an incident last night in which a man was allegedly beaten by the police after he was seeing placing lit candles along the roadway in memory of another man killed in a reported confrontation with the police last week.

The roadblock has cut off access to the Green Pond High School as well as the Farm Primary and Junior High School.

It has also affected people working outside of Cornwall Courts.

The protest, which started sometime after 10 o'clock last night, was being manned by the police.

However, overnight, the police left the area and the roadblocks have since been reinforced.
