The Ministry of Education has instructed that Grade 5 students who did not attain mastery in the Grade 4 Numeracy and Literacy Test must do resits this year.

It says it has advised school principals that these students must be included among the students sitting the exams this year.

The 2017 Grade 4 Literacy Test is set for Wednesday, June 21, while the Grade 4 General Achievement in Numeracy (GAIN) is set for the following day.

The Ministry says it is aware of the anxiety many parents are having about the upcoming examination.

It says school administrators should convey to parents that there are no changes in the format or content of the two assessments as they are not curriculum based.

The ministry says they are instead designed to measure students’ mastery level in literacy and numeracy.
