Ganja worth over $2m seized in St Thomas, St Elizabeth
Over 500 pounds of ganja worth just over $2 million was seized by detectives assigned to the Narcotics Division yesterday in St Thomas and St Elizabeth.
In the first seizure the police's Corporate Communication Unit (CCU) reports that a police team found 473 pounds of compressed ganja when they searched a house at Nuts River Road in Lyssons, St Thomas.
The CCU says a quantity of ganja seeds weighing a little over eight pounds was also found in the basement of the house.
One man was taken into custody in connection with the seizure. His identity is being withheld.
In the second incident, the CCU reports that a police team attempted to intercept a motorcycle in St Elizabeth when the driver threw away a package in which 74 pounds of ganja was found wrapped in tarpaulin.
He managed to elude the police team.
The drug has a combined estimated street value of $2.188 million.
