PNP Councillor remains hospitalised as probe commences into shooting

People's National Party (PNP) Councillor for the Greenwich Town Division in Southwest St Andrew, 56-year-old Karl Blake, remains hospitalised in stable condition after being shot by gunmen last night.

Social worker 52-year-old Maxine Simpson was also shot in the same incident.

She was pronounced dead at hospital.

The police say Blake and Simpson were sitting outside the Caribbean Estate Community Centre along Spanish Town Road about 8:30 in the evening when armed men entered the premises and opened fire hitting both of them.

They were taken to hospital where the councillor was admitted and Simpson, who is from a Meadowbrook address, was pronounced dead.

Detectives assigned to the Hunts Bay Police Station are probing the incident.
