Bunting says murders over 600
Opposition Spokesman on National Security Peter Bunting says based on his calculations, approximately 639 persons have been killed since the start of the year.
According to Bunting, this number include 54 murders that were recorded in the 10 days since the start of the month and 11 in Clarendon in the last week.
The former national security minister says he is concerned that the JCF lacks the manpower and resources to tackle the crime situation. He says the opposition is alarmed at the spiralling murder rate and the lack of a coherent response from the Government.
Bunting urged the government to provide an emergency allocation of resources to dramatically improve the presence of the police and the military in crime hot spots across the island.
