NWC to resume charging late fees next month

The National Water Commission (NWC) is to resume charging late fees on overdue bills as of July 1.

The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) announced in a release today that it gave the NWC the go-ahead to resume charging the 250 dollar late fee.

This after the water company was ordered to discontinue the charges by the OUR in March.

The OUR says it decided to reverse the directive after it reviewed information supplied by the NWC and held discussions with the management.

The utility regulator says it is now satisfied that the NWC has implemented appropriate measures to resolve the issues which had caused the charge to be wrongfully applied to customers' bills.

It says the NWC must now inform customers of the resumption of the charges before applying it to bills.

The OUR is urging NWC customers to continue to monitor their bills and report any anomalies.
