Two men were shot and killed by the police and three illegal firearms seized in separate incidents between last night and early this morning in west Kingston.

The police say a sergeant attached to the Kingston Western Police Division was also injured during one of the incidents.

The identities of the dead men have not been ascertained.

The police report that a team was on patrol in the community of Rose Town last night when they came under attack from a group of men armed with high-powered weapons.

According to the police, the team repelled the attack and one of the gunmen was found with gunshot wounds and later died at hospital.

About an hour later, the police say another team was on patrol near Coronation Market when a group of men, armed with high-powered weapons, attempted to enter the facility.

When they were prevented from doing so, the men reportedly opened fire at the police and during an exchange of gunfire, the sergeant and one of the gunmen were shot.

The gunman was pronounced dead at hospital.
