Gov't plans technical assessment for St Joseph’s Hospital
The Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton says a technical assessment is to be conducted of the St Joseph’s Hospital in St Andrew with a view to transforming the facility into a centre of excellence.
That assessment, Tufton says, will be done during the current financial year.
He says land space is available to facilitate the upgrading of the 24-bed general hospital to handle certain specialist services.
The health minister says one of the services being looked at is oncology, noting that there has been significant investment in a linear accelerator to deal with cancer treatment.
He says that facility is being installed and the ministry will be looking to build around it in order to facilitate additional support services.
Tufton was speaking following the opening of a three-day internal medicine review conference at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies on Friday.
